FOREWORD
The following foreword from Dr. Michael Swords reproduced here from a project
SIGN paperback published by the Fund for UFO Research completely matches our
thinking for The Majestic Documents."
"The study of the UFO phenomenon has been as enigmatic as the phenomenon itself.
A great deal of effort and energy has been expended, and yet, for all the hours
spent by intelligent researchers, the subject remains in the disrespected
fringes of so-called serious work.
Why bother studying historical documents? Because what is missing, other than
extraordinarily concrete physics-like evidence, is history. Ufology, strangely,
has not established a good historical record. One of the hallmarks of reality -
real things -- is that there is a history. With the possible exception of the
Big Bang and the odd miracle, everything real has history. Where is the history
of Ufology? In the eyes and minds of the intellectual world, the UFO phenomenon
has been (in the words of Charles Fort) 'just one damned thing after another.
The best documented cases and the stories of the most egregious lunatics, alike,
all just fade away in the mist of passing time without having any lasting
impact.
The vast majority of persons interested in UFOs have never realized this, or,
perhaps because they are just involved for the kicks, do not care. Even most
serious researchers do not understand why their work keeps slipping away beneath
their feet like sand. They pursue the strong case in hopes that it will be the
one which finally convinces. Barring some startling breakthrough by direct
contact, that 'one' case will never come. A growing sense of reality comes more
humbly, and in a more orderly manner. It comes by establishing a solid,
disciplined history. Academia deals with 'disciplines' and order and conscious
connection. Ufology is not a discipline.
"But there is hope. Now our Ufological scholars are awash with documents due to
the magic of the Freedom of information Act (FOIA). We have an opportunity to
anchor the phenomenon solidly in time, in institutions of the gravest nature,
and in context. We should begin 'everywhere and everywhen,' but we should
particularly begin at the beginning. It is my opinion that for our purposes, the
post-war period, the Cold War environment, and Project Sign are the beginning."

INTRODUCTION AND SUMMARY
From 1992 to 1996, a man by the name of Timothy Cooper received documents
in his P.O. Box from a person claiming to be Thomas Cantwheel. Don Berliner
received an undeveloped roll of Tri-X film in his mail box in March, 1994 which
contained the Special Operations Manual (SOM1-O1). In 1984 Bill Moors and Jamie
Shandera received the Eisenhower Briefing Document (EBD) in the same fashion as
Don Berliner: undeveloped Tri-X film. In an attempt to authenticate all these
documents, Bob Wood has met with all the recipients. Bob and his partner and son
Ryan have devoted significant energy to authenticate them. One of the techniques
often used is to replicate the documents. This, for example, identifies spelling
and grammatical errors easily with electronic checkers. Also, it improves the
readability and reinforces the content.
This book does not contain any authentication data. It merely lets the reader be
exposed for the first time to this remarkable series of 15 documents that tell a
story of extraterrestrial hardware, discovery and concealment over the years by
United States military and Government officials.
Following each of the copies of our "original" documents are the replica
document pages, intended except as noted to be identical to the original,
including misspellings and other errors. They are sometimes called out at the
end of the document, sometimes on each page, and sometimes not at all. If you,
the reader, find flaws in our replications we are eager to know and correct them
in a continuing effort to make them resemble the originals.
Since manual typewriters have either 12 characters per inch (elite type) or 10
characters per inch (pica type), and there are six lines vertically per inch if
the paper is not slipping, it is possible to count precisely the number of
missing letters on portions that are illegible or redacted. If you believe you
can logically determine the missing words or phrases, we would love to gain your
insight. Drop us a note at the P.O. Box shown on the title page.
If you feel that you have a first hand story, physical evidence or documents
that would support our effort we encourage you to forward your best copy to us
and keep the original in a safe place. We will completely respect all
confidences.
Although we believe these documents are genuine, we are not including that
evidence here, since it will be presented in our upcoming book: THE SECRET:
Evidence That We Are Not Alone. The book is in preparation and involves a
sophisticated treatment of the usual elements of questioned document
examination, along with witness testimony.

a description of our upcoming 1999 documentary film being produced by Gary Beebe
and White River Productions.
In the meantime, you will have the chance to decide for yourselves.
